Tips for Boys' Shoes
- Allow room to grow: Leave about a thumb's width between the longest toe and the front of the shoe.
- Measure both feet: It's common for one foot to be slightly larger. Always fit to the larger foot.
- Check regularly: Children's feet can grow 1-2 sizes per year. Check fit every 2-3 months.
- Shop in the afternoon: Feet swell during the day, so measure later for the most accurate size.
How to Measure Your Feet
Follow these simple steps to find your accurate shoe size at home. You'll need a piece of paper, a pencil, and a ruler or measuring tape.
Prepare Your Materials
Place a piece of paper on a hard floor against a wall. Have a pencil and ruler ready. Wear the type of socks you'll typically wear with dress shoes.
Stand on the Paper
Stand on the paper with your heel against the wall. Distribute your weight evenly on both feet as you would when standing normally.
Mark Your Foot
Have someone mark the tip of your longest toe on the paper. Keep the pencil straight up and down for accuracy.
Measure the Length
Measure from the wall (where your heel was) to the mark. This is your foot length. Compare to our size chart above.
Measure Both Feet
Repeat for the other foot. If one foot is larger, use that measurement to determine your size.
Find Your Size
Match your measurement to the closest size in our chart. If you're between sizes, we recommend going up to the next size.
Pro Tips for Accurate Measurement
- Measure your feet at the end of the day when they're at their largest.
- Always stand when measuring - sitting can give inaccurate results.
- Wear the socks you plan to wear with the shoes.
- If one foot is larger than the other (common!), always fit to the larger foot.
- For dress shoes, there should be about 1/4" to 1/2" of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoe.
Shoe Width Guide
Most of our shoes are available in standard (D) width. Some styles are also available in wide (EE/E) widths. Here's how to determine your width.
| Width | Letter Code | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Narrow | B / C | Slimmer than average |
| Standard | D | Average width (most common) |
| Wide | E / EE | Wider than average |
| Extra Wide | EEE / EEEE | Very wide feet |
How to Know If You Need Wide Width
Check Your Current Shoes
If your shoes feel tight on the sides or you see bulging at the widest part, you may need a wider width.
Look at Wear Patterns
If the sides of your current shoes show excessive stretching or wear, wide width may be more comfortable.
Measure Your Width
Wrap a measuring tape around the widest part of your foot (ball of foot). Compare to width charts or contact us for guidance.
